87. Tim Flannery and Bob Weir “Loser”
“Two World Series Trophies”
From 1901 through 1954, there were two baseball teams in Philadelphia: the Athletics and Phillies. During this era, the Athletics won five Fall Classics. Also, from July 4, 1938 through 1954, the Athletics and Phillies shared a stadium. Although the Phillies didn’t win a World Series while the Athletics played in the “City of Brotherly Love,” they later won Fall Classics in 1980 and 2008.
Since 1968, there have been two baseball teams in the Bay Area: the Oakland Athletics and San Francisco Giants. Before San Francisco won their two World Series titles, Oakland won four Fall Classics.
On January 25, 2013, I attended Tim Flannery’s concert in Mill Valley, California. Not only is Tim a super San Francisco coach, but also he is a great guitarist. During “Loser,” he played marvelous music with the Grateful Dead’s Bob Weir while both of San Francisco’s World Series trophies were displayed on the Sweetwater Stage. So, my eighty-seventh video features this historic moment!
Even though the Athletics won more Fall Classics than their previous neighbor and current one, the Giants and Phillies possess superb stadiums. At Citizens Bank Park, you can see Ashburn Alley, the Philadelphia Baseball Wall of Fame, and the Phillie Phanatic. At AT&T Park, you can see spectacular views, McCovey Cove, and the San Francisco Giants Wall of Fame. For a franchise that has won nine championships, the Athletics deserve a new or renovated stadium!
